Hull City midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath was involved in a car crash near the club's Cottingham training ground on Thursday morning. The 23-year-old's black Mercedes ended up on its side on Millhouse Woods Lane, damaging a resident's car but causing no injuries.

Humberside Police confirmed emergency services attended the scene. The club later issued a statement, saying: "Hull City is aware of images circulating on social media following a road traffic accident near the training ground and can confirm that no one was harmed in the incident." Gourna-Douath had only recently taken delivery of the vehicle, posing with it on social media the day before the crash.

Second incident in weeks

A Hull City player has crashed on the same narrow lane. Teammate Sorba Thomas flipped his grey Land Rover Defender on the way to training. Thomas walked away from that incident and came off the bench the following day in the draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Local residents have expressed concern over safety on the road, which is used by children walking to school. Paul Nickerson, who lives nearby, said he arrived just after the Mercedes turned over. "If it had happened a minute before, my wife was walking down the road with our kids taking them to school," he said.

Tracey Evans, a resident, said she has been asking for the speed limit to be reduced. "At that time, children are coming, going to school, the parents are coming back," she said, adding that measures are needed to avoid something happening in the future.

Focus returns to football

Gourna-Douath, a summer signing from RB Salzburg, and the rest of the squad will now turn their attention back to Premier League football. Hull City currently sit in the table with points from their opening five games. Their next fixture is a home match against Everton, a key contest in the early season standings.

The team's recent form shows one win, two draws and two defeats from their last five outings. Manager Liam Rosenior will hope for a swift return to focus as his side prepares for the visit of the Toffees to the MKM Stadium next weekend.
