Hull City midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath was involved in a car accident on the road to the club's Cottingham training ground on Thursday morning, the second such incident involving a Tigers player in three weeks. The 23-year-old Frenchman was unharmed after his vehicle ended up on its side on Millhouse Woods Lane around 8:30 a.m.
Police attended the single-vehicle collision, which occurred on the narrow 30mph road that leads to the training complex. The club confirmed it was aware of images circulating on social media and that no one was injured. Gourna-Douath's incident follows a similar one on 11 September, when winger Sorba Thomas's car overturned on the same stretch of road. The 27-year-old Welsh international also walked away unscathed.
Local councillor Phil Redshaw has written to the club urging greater caution. "I wrote to the Hull City club secretary on Sunday asking them to remind players to be careful in approaching the training ground," Redshaw said. The back-to-back accidents have heightened safety concerns among residents about the route frequently used by players.
The incidents come as Hull City, promoted this season, sit eighth in the Premier League with eight points from five games. The squad, which includes recent signing Mohamed Belloumi who is the team's top scorer with two goals, will hope for a calmer build-up ahead of that game at the MKM Stadium.
