Mohamed Belloumi's late strike earned Hull City a hard-fought point in a 2-2 draw with Everton at the MKM Stadium. The result keeps the Tigers unbeaten at home this season and lifts them to 8th in the Premier League table on nine points.
Joe Gelhardt, a former Everton academy player, gave Hull the lead three minutes after half-time, finishing a move involving Sorba Thomas and Oli McBurnie. Everton responded through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's 55th-minute strike before Thierno Barry put the visitors ahead with twenty minutes to go. Belloumi, Hull's top scorer this season with three goals, levelled the scores just four minutes later, converting a cross from Elliot Stroud.
Everton manager David Moyes expressed his frustration after the match. "I’m really disappointed that we didn’t come away with three points," Moyes said. "I couldn’t see them getting a goal when we went 2-1 up, I thought if anything we would go on and finish it." He was critical of his team's performance, which came amid off-field turbulence for the Merseyside club. "The overall performance from everyone was so far below our level, way below where we should be," he added.
The match was a lively affair, with Everton having a Brennan Johnson goal disallowed by VAR in the first half. Hull head coach Sergej Jakirovic will be pleased with his side's resilience, especially after recent results. The Tigers' form over their last five games shows three draws and two defeats, a run they will aim to improve upon.
With the point, Hull City maintain their solid start to the campaign. The current standings show the Tigers just nine points behind leaders Manchester City after six matches played.
