Former Hull City manager Peter Taylor is back in football at the age of 73 after taking on an assistant manager role with the Thailand national team. The appointment sees the ex-Tigers boss return to the international game under head coach Anthony Hudson.
Taylor, who managed Hull City from 2002 to 2006, has held many managerial roles since first joining the club. His most recent job was with non-league Canvey Island FC. He previously worked as an assistant under Hudson at the Bahrain national team and joined his staff with New Zealand in 2016, where he monitored European-based players.
Thailand's upcoming schedule
The first match for Thailand will be against Pakistan on September 26. The team then faces Vietnam on September 29 and the Philippines on October 2, with the ASEAN Cup final scheduled for October 5. Hudson explained the reasoning behind bringing Taylor on board.
"Regarding Peter Taylor, we wanted to bring in an additional support member to assist with training," Hudson said. "Of course, he isn't coming in to replace anyone or take over anyone's role, but rather to support the entire staff and help make our work more efficient."
Another English coach, Kane Wintersgill, is also joining the Thailand staff. The Thailand FA stated they wanted extra support for their training sessions.
Taylor's return to the game comes as his former club, Hull City, sit in the Premier League. Their recent form reads one win, two draws and two defeats from their last five outings. The Tigers' next fixture is at home to Everton on October 11, a game you can preview on our fixtures page. The squad, currently missing several players, is listed on our injuries page.
