Liam Millar is fully committed to Birmingham City's promotion campaign, with Hull City unable to recall the winger in January. The 27-year-old Canadian international is on a season-long loan at St Andrew's and has no clause allowing an early return to the MKM Stadium.

Millar has been a key figure for Chris Davies's side, scoring four goals and providing three assists in his first seven appearances. Hull City, meanwhile, sit ninth in the Premier League with nine points from seven games after a 1-0 defeat at Fulham last time out.

Millar's Birmingham commitment

Speaking after representing Canada during the recent international break, Millar made his priorities clear. "I'm really enjoying it, I've had a great time here, and my family loves it here," he said. "But I'm being honest with you, my full focus is on helping Blues get to the Premier League, and we'll think about what happens after that."

The winger, who joined Hull from Preston North End in 2024, has a contract with the Tigers until June 2027, with an option for a further year. He was allowed to leave on loan after Hull's promotion to the top flight, a move that has proven beneficial for his development. He noted similarities between Birmingham's current push and the atmosphere he experienced during Hull's own successful promotion season.

No January return possible

A significant factor in the situation is the structure of the loan deal. Hull City do not possess a recall option, meaning Millar will remain a Birmingham player for the entirety of the 2026-27 campaign. Boss Chris Davies has publicly expressed his desire to keep the influential forward, and the contractual terms ensure he will.

Millar's immediate future is settled, allowing him to concentrate on Birmingham's schedule. He acknowledged the challenge of balancing club duties with international travel, having earned 47 caps for Canada. "It's difficult travelling around the world and being in different time zones," Millar said. "But that's part of being an international footballer, and you've got to be able to deal with that."

For Hull City, the focus shifts to their own Premier League survival bid. Acuna's men have taken just two points from their last five matches, a run of form detailed on our standings page. They host Brentford, who are sixth, at the MKM Stadium on 25 October in a key fixture. Top scorer Mohamed Belloumi, with three goals this term, will be central to their hopes of ending that winless streak.
