Hull City defender John Egan has signed a new two-year contract with the Premier League club. The deal September 3, includes a club option for an additional year, securing the 33-year-old Ireland international's future at the MKM Stadium.
Egan has been a mainstay in a defence that has yet to concede a goal this season, playing the full 90 minutes in victories over Manchester United and Coventry City.
John Egan joined Hull City in February 2025 and has since made 61 appearances for the club. After featuring 11 times in the latter part of the 2024-25 campaign, he established himself as a regular starter. His contributions were vital in the previous Championship season, where he played 39 games and scored three goals, helping the Tigers secure promotion via the play-off final against Middlesbrough.
The Cork native believes the club's environment has been key to his resurgence. "The club put a lot of trust in me and I would like to think I have repaid the club by putting in performances," Egan said. "The club has helped me get back to my best, and I’ve played a small part in helping the club do well."
Egan's new deal provides vital stability to a Hull City backline that is currently managing several absences. Key players Charlie Hughes, Darko Gyabi, Jack Butland, and Óscar Zambrano are all currently sidelined. His experience and consistent performances have made him an indispensable figure, especially during this early phase of the Premier League season.
His commitment is a significant boost for manager Liam Rosenior, who can rely on Egan's leadership and defensive solidity.
