Hull City Signs Oscar Zambrano on Permanent Deal
Hull City have completed the permanent signing of Ecuadorian midfielder Oscar Zambrano, 12 months after he finished a loan spell at the club. The 22-year-old signed a four-year contract - with the option of an additional year - after the newly promoted Premier League side agreed an undisclosed fee with Slovenian side Maribor.
What happened?
Zambrano made eight appearances for the Tigers in the 2024-25 season after joining from Ecuadorian side LDU Quito on a season-long loan. However, his time at Maribor was limited due to injury, with the defensive midfielder making just seven appearances for the club.
Why it matters for Hull City
The signing of Zambrano is a significant boost for Hull City, who are currently 6th in the Championship with 73 points from 46 games. The Tigers are 22 points behind leaders Coventry and will be looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. Zambrano's experience and skill will be valuable assets to the team.
What comes next?
Hull City's next fixture is against Liverpool on February 20, 2027, and Zambrano will be looking to make an impact in the match. The Tigers will be hoping to build on their current form, which has seen them win 21 games, draw 10, and lose 15 so far this season. With 70 goals scored and 66 conceded, Hull City's goal difference is +4.
Zambrano has been capped 14 times at under-20 level by his country and began his footballing education at the same academy as Chelsea's Moises Caicedo at Colorados Jaipadida. The defensive midfielder was given a 16-month suspension by South American football confederation Conmebol for breaching anti-doping rules while playing for Quito. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced the ban to 12 months, and Zambrano returned to competitive action in November 2025 with Maribor.
The signing of Zambrano is Hull City's second of the summer, following the arrival of 33-year-old goalkeeper Jack Butland from Rangers. With the new season just around the corner, Hull City fans will be eager to see Zambrano in action and how he will contribute to the team's success.
