Hull City are closing in on a permanent deal for Olympiakos goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis this week. Sergej Jakirovic’s side are on the verge of finalising terms after weeks of negotiations with the Greek club.
Who is Konstantinos Tzolakis?
The 24-year-old has already played in the Champions League and holds the record as the youngest Greek goalkeeper to feature in a Greek Cup final at 17 years, 10 months and four days old. He also led the 2024-25 Europa League in clean sheets with six in 10 games.
Greek football journalist Konstantinos Lianos told BBC Radio Humberside that Tzolakis handles pressure well - a trait Hull City will need when they return to the Premier League. Lianos said: “We are talking about a player who is very good with pressure. That’s exactly what Hull are about to deal with on their return to the top flight.”
Why is Tzolakis a Hull City target?
Hull City sit sixth in the Championship on 73 points from 46 games, 22 points behind Coventry. Their next fixture is a trip to Liverpool on February 20, 2027. With just four points separating them from the play-offs, the Tigers need a reliable goalkeeper to secure their top-flight status.
Tzolakis has conceded 66 goals in 46 games this season while keeping 70 clean sheets, a ratio that could shore up Hull’s defence. Jakirovic’s side have shipped 66 goals so far - the third-worst record among the current top eight.
What will the transfer cost Hull City?
Lianos expects Hull to “dig deep” to sign Tzolakis permanently. Olympiakos are yet to agree a fee, but the asking price reflects his Champions League experience and shot-stopping reputation. The Tigers have already used 15 goalkeepers in all competitions this season, highlighting their need for a settled No 1.
Hull City’s recent form reads WWDWL, a run that leaves them six points adrift of the automatic spots. A permanent Tzolakis deal would give Jakirovic a clear hierarchy between the posts ahead of the Premier League push.
