Hull City defender Akin Famewo has joined Bolton Wanderers on a three-year deal.

The 27-year-old centre-back made 15 appearances in the Championship last season, helping Hull City win promotion to the Premier League. As of 07 Jul 2026, Hull City is 6th in Championship, with 73 pts from 46 games, and 22 points behind leaders Coventry.

What happened?

Famewo has close to 200 career appearances, coming through the ranks at Luton Town and moving on to Norwich City and Sheffield Wednesday, along with loans at St Mirren and Charlton Athletic. He had a chance meeting with the Bolton squad at Wembley as Hull celebrated their win against Southampton to seal promotion.

Why it matters for Hull City

The defender is confident he can bring something extra to Wanderers, now that they have reached the Championship. He told the club, "I met with the manager and everyone in charge here and speaking about aspirations and what we want to achieve here it was really exciting times."

What comes next?

Famewo is looking forward to playing in front of the partisan support which followed Wanderers to the final at Wembley. With Hull City on a 4-game winning run, and recent form of 4W-1D-0L, Famewo's experience will be valuable to Bolton Wanderers, as they aim to make an impact in the Championship.
