Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves said a new striker is needed at Old Trafford after United lost 0-0 to Hull City on opening day of the Premier League. The defeat saw Benjamin Sesko start on the bench and Matheus Cunha play deeper, with no goal from the side.
Hargreaves’ Assessment
Hargreaves told TNT Sports that United “didn’t look like scoring” and that a No.9 would help. He noted that Sesko didn’t start and Cunha, a 10, played a little deeper, limiting space for the team to create chances.
Current Squad Moves
United’s priority this summer has been to strengthen midfield. Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos began the Hull match, and a deal has been agreed with Brighton for Carlos Baleba, who is poised to become the third midfield addition of the window.
Future Outlook
Hargreaves added that the team should “go back to the drawing board” and consider a different approach. Michael Carrick, who has been linked with future signings, said he would not comment on potential players until they are officially announced.
The club’s focus remains on bolstering its attack and midfield as the season progresses.
